Last night we had our annual (near-) St. Patrick's Day viewing of the Disney classic Darby O'Gill and the Little People. Stuffed full of fun and culture and special effects that still hold up (mostly because they are "practical" -- physical tricks like forced perspective that will never go out of fashion as long as our eyes work).

Then, after the kids were in bed, I recorded my fourth (!) podcast with The Chronic Rift. The topic was "B Movies," a particular favorite of mine. Along with Rift regulars Andrea K. Lipinski and Orenthal Hawkins popfiend we were joined by two other experts: Paul Chapman of The Greatest Movie Ever podcast, and Frank Conniff, late of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and now of Cinematic Titanic. We hit everything from Ed Wood to the musical remake of Lost Horizon to Troll 2: does its reputation hold up? A good time was had by all.

It will be released on iTunes and the Rift website this coming Thursday.

Darby O'Gill and the Little People
This movie gave me a reacurring nightmare from the time I first saw it (at age 4) until I was 20 and saw it for the second time. I looked at that Banshee and recognized it from numerous nights of waking up frighten and insanely scared for no recogniziable reason. Never had the nightmare again and now I really enjoy watching a very young Sean Connery.
