Mission accomplished: after three years

Bahn mi is a Vietnamese sandwich that's a combination of local flavors (pork, cilantro) with that French colonial mainstay the baguette. The Eden Center mall is a Vietnamese shopping center. Way back in 2008, The Washington Post reviewed all EIGHT bahn mi joints at the Eden, and declared Nhu Lan the best.

Like Harry Truman carrying a copy of "Locksley Hall" in his wallet, I have carried a yellow sticky with that name written on it in my wallet for three years. Only today did we make it to Eden Center, despite the fact that it's only a couple miles from my house. It is a tiny place. It has literally one table and two chairs. It's only a little bigger than my laundry room. And I have a small laundry room. Is it yummy? Yes. The bread is warm (unlike every other bahn mi I've had), the meats tender, and they use "secret butter." (I didn't ask. It's a secret.) Now that I know how yummy, it will be a lot easier to make my way there again in a timely manner.
