Ray Bradbury, RIP

Ray Bradbury, RIP. He was one of our household gods. It was probably the fact that he lived in Los Angeles, like I did growing up. So I must have heard him speak about a dozen times. At community colleges, at Unitarian churches . . . His majestic voice will be ever in my head. Go over to YouTube and check out a few clips of him speaking / reading. Here's an appreciation I did for my podcast, It Has Come To My Attention, last October. It ends with an audio clip from The Dick Cavett Show where Ray tells my favorite autobiographical tale of his, the saga of Mr. Electrico: http://www.chronicrift.com/node/1581.

For anyone who wants to read more about him, I recommend these two books: Becoming Ray Bradbury by Jonathan R. Eller. This covers his earliest years writing and the factors that shaped him as a craftsman. The best over-all biography is The Bradbury Chronicles: The Life of Ray Bradbury by Sam Weller.
