First sale of the year: Nonfiction article

(As always, no details until the editor goes public)

Way back at the end 2008, I pitched an idea to a magazine I’ve liked for quite some time. The editor said that there wouldn’t be room, but I could try again next year. I did so . . . all of about two weeks ago. This time the editor was receptive, and even had a specific slot for it in mind. He had an idea about how to change the angle, and that, frankly, made it not only easier to write, but allowed for some fun research, and a great new way for me to end the article.

One weekend and a couple of night’s worth of writing I sent in my first draft, and only a few hours later the editor replied. It’s amazing how fast you can write when you’ve been ruminating on a topic for over a year. Anyway, the editor re-wrote a couple sentences, and, yes, that greatly improved the flow.

Now it’s all set. Great start to the year.
