$55 for four movie tickets!? Yes, I know New York always has the highest-priced movie tickets, but the most you can expect to spend in the DC area is $10. Usually it's still $7 or $8. So basically our tickets to Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs cost twice as much in NY as in DC. Oy! But the theater was just a block and a half from the hotel – and it was showing in 3D. Had to go.

It was a lovely, clear day when we went to see the Statue of Liberty. I recommend it, and I recommend shelling out the extra bucks for entrance to pedestal and visitor center there within. But why do you have to have a security check before you get on the ferry to the island, and then again before you go inside the statue's pedestal? Surely the only way to the island is by ferry. Unless you swam ashore, nothing bad could have attached itself to your person since you left Battery Park.

This was the When Harry Met Sally vacation. First the temple of Temple of Dendur at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (“Peeee-can pie”), then Katz's delicatessen (“I'll have what she's having”). Katz's was crowded, and it took half an hour to to move through the line and get our food. The Lower East Side regular behind us said it's always like this. Was the Reuben sandwich worth it? Eh. It was a pretty good nosh. The pickles were very tasty, though. What blew me away, though, was the hot dogs. Elizabeth had one, and she let me have a taste. That was the best hot dog I have ever had. Bar none. Rich, flavorful, meaty. That was a hot dog! Apparently Katz' prepares all their own meats. Next time I go, whatever I have, I'll get a side of hot dogs too.

Sorry I didn't get to see you this time around. Next time you're coming around my ways, let me know and we can get the families together.

NY to DC (and vice versa)
Great idea. For all folks traveling the NY/DC corridor, I recommend BoltBus. Free Wi-Fi and electrical sockets, pretty good leg room, a bathroom. Four hours. $20 of less per person each way.
