After a long hiatus in which nothing whatsoever came to my attention, I'm back.

Fantagraphics Books deserves a Nobel Prize in Literature for the their efforts to reprint complete runs of classic American comic strips. Their latest project is Crockett Johnson's Barnaby. Barnaby ran throughout the 1940s and early '50s and has been practically unobtainable since then. Now Fantagraphics is reprinting the strip in another high-quality, complete run in the style of their Peanuts collection.

The eponymous Barnaby is a young boy who's simple childhood is turned upside down by his Fairy Godfather, Mr. O'Malley. The fedora-clad sprite with a cigar for a magic wand leads Barnaby on many a misguided and humorous adventure. The strip is packed full of period detail like victory gardens and spy rings. Barnaby is funny, literate, and fun. And now it's back.

You can listen to my Barnaby podcast over at The Chronic Rift. As always, be sure to listen to the very end. I had a little vocal help from voice-over pro Paul K. Bisson (perhaps you recognize him as the co-host of the Rift network's Cyborgs: A Bionic Podcast, or as the voice of Restaurant Stakeout on the Food Network. Check him out on Twitter.
